Song Of The Day: Nicki Minaj- "Roman In Moscow"

I'm trying very hard to stay a fan of, for lack of a better word, "gangsta" rap.  The problem is, most of the heavily-hyped releases in the last few years have not done it for me, even a little.  For instance, there used to be song after song that I would listen to and think, "Yo, this dude is a BEAST."  But it seems like rap doesn't have the same ferocity anymore.

Like Nicki's new song here- everyone's up in arms about how "hard" she goes.  But the lyrics are just her talking about how hard she goes!  How does that prove anything?  And that's my biggest gripe about rap right now: everyone's just talking about what a good rapper they are.  There's no storytelling, no back-and-forth, not even any repping your city or discussing all the crimes you've committed.  Nope, just people talking about how rich they are, and reminding us that they're good rappers.  And occasionally about how they like to get high.  Yawn.  Maybe I wouldn't be so negative if the beats were a little better, but they tend to be pretty soft as well.  So, in conclusion, let's get back to the days of this.  Or, at least this.
